Spotify Connect in Musique

Musique supports Spotify Connect and Jam. It can appear as a Connect device in the official Spotify apps, letting you control desktop playback from another device.

Control your desktop from Spotify

Spotify Connect separates the device controlling playback from the device playing the music. With Musique running and signed in, check the device picker in the official Spotify app for the Musique device. Select it to control playback on your desktop.

The music plays through the selected playback device. This is different from sending your phone's audio to a Bluetooth speaker. Keep Musique open on the computer that should play the music.

Premium playback and free accounts

Musique uses a patched librespot core for direct Spotify playback with Premium accounts. Free accounts use YouTube Music for playback while retaining Spotify library and track metadata.

These playback sources are different. Do not assume the free-account YouTube Music path has the same Connect behavior as Premium Spotify playback. Check the current release notes and issue tracker for limitations affecting your account and version.

Spotify Jam and other listening tools

The Musique project lists Jam support alongside Connect. Jam is Spotify's shared listening feature. Availability can depend on account requirements and the current Musique release.

Musique also supports operating system media controls, Last.fm scrobbling and Discord Rich Presence. These are separate features. Media controls let you control the player from your desktop, while scrobbling and Rich Presence share listening activity with the respective services.

What if Musique does not appear as a device?

  1. Confirm Musique is open, connected to the internet and signed in to the intended Spotify account.
  2. Check the account in the official Spotify app and reopen its device picker.
  3. Confirm the playback source and whether your account has Premium. Free-account playback follows a different path.
  4. Check the latest Musique release notes and search existing Connect issues before opening a report.

For a reproducible problem, include your operating system, Musique version, account tier, the controlling device and what happened when selecting Musique. Never include passwords, tokens or client secrets.

The Musique issue tracker is the place to report app problems. The repository README describes the current implementation.
